American intelligence has concluded that the drone attack on the Kremlin was most likely carried out by Ukraine, however, it is not clear which agency.

American intelligence agencies, after preliminary analysis, believe that Ukraine was probably involved in the drone attack on the Kremlin in early May. On Wednesday, May 24, The New York Times reported, citing sources.

So, US intelligence agencies believe that the attack was most likely carried out by Ukrainian special services, but the US does not know which agency. American intelligence also has no information about whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky knew about the attack, the NYT wrote.

The publication notes that some US officials initially considered the possibility that the attack could be carried out by Russian authorities as a “false flag operation.” After studying the intercepted communications of Russian officials, the US intelligence is inclined to the version of the attack by the Ukrainian side.

“The United States has also blocked talks with Ukrainians in which officials have expressed the opinion that their country is behind this action. But these officials, apparently, do not know who exactly Ukrainian system can plan and execute it,” the newspaper wrote.

NYT sources explained that the US intelligence services have an incomplete understanding of the work of the Ukrainian security forces. In Ukraine, there are at least three influential law enforcement agencies that have their own forces for special operations that compete with each other – the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Intelligence Directorate, said of newspaper interlocutors.

Many risky operations can be carried out without President Zelensky’s direct approval, giving him the opportunity to properly deny his knowledge of a particular operation, NYT sources said.

It will be recalled that on May 3, Moscow announced an “attack by Ukrainian drones” on the Kremlin, regarding it as a “planned terrorist act and an attempt on the life of the Russian leader” Vladimir Putin on the eve of the Day of Success.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky assured that Kyiv did not make any “attack” on the Kremlin or its head Putin and uses weapons to protect its territory.
