Those parishioners who decide to use the old calendar can do so, the head of the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience believes.
The transitional period during the introduction of the new Julian calendar will protect the OCU from an internal split. This was said by the Chairman of the State Service for Ethnopolitics and Freedom of Conscience Viktor Yelensky, reports Ukrinform.
“An important part of this decision is that the parishioners who decided to use the old calendar will be able to do so. This situation is very important, because all transitions to the new calendar in Orthodox churches are accompanied by a split (for example , in Greece and some countries have old calendars) So, the OCU avoided it, as did the UGCC,” said Yelensky.
He added that talks about the transition to a new church calendar have been going on for a long time, but the full invasion of the Russian Federation became the reason for the event, because the religious communities of Ukraine are separated from all connected with Russia.
Remember that OCU has decided to switch to a new calendar.
