The meeting was held in Beijing as part of the IAEA’s active efforts to prevent an accident at the occupied nuclear power plant.
The head of the International Nuclear Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, discussed with the head of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev the security issue at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant occupied by Russia. It was reported on May 24 at Twitter IAEA press service.
It was noted that the meeting was held in Beijing.
“As part of the many efforts to promote the principles of preventing a nuclear or radiological accident at the Zaporozhye NPP, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi met with Director General Rosatom today in Beijing,” the publication said.
Earlier, The Washington Post reported that the IAEA Director General is preparing new proposals for the security of the occupied Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. He plans to submit a list of five principles for approval by the UN Security Council later this month.
The plan is less ambitious than Grossi’s first attempts to create a full protective zone around the Zaporizhzhya NPP, but it could still improve the unstable situation, according to the publication.
