The EU is preparing the implementation of the second part of the plan to provide the Armed Forces of Ukraine with ammunition and other projects.
The member countries of the European Union have already transferred 220,000 shells of various calibers and 1,300 missiles to Ukraine as part of the first track for the supply of ammunition to Ukraine. This was said by the representative of the EU for foreign policy and security Josep Borrell, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
He noted that ammunition was allocated from its own stocks with subsequent compensation.
“Thanks to the first track, the Member States have already provided 220,000 bullets of various calibers and 1,300 rockets. This first track will open on May 31, and we will reach our goal of 1 billion euros – in now (Member States, – ed.) has already been paid for 800 million euros,” said Borrell.
Speaking about the second tranche of aid, he noted that 24 countries have already shown interest in it. In addition, “there are two other projects – one led by France, the second – by Germany.” At the same time, Borrell did not name the details of these projects.
Regarding the increase in the production capacity of the EU and Norway’s defense industry, Borrell referred to European Commissioner Thierry Breton, who “explained that the European industry has the capacity to produce ammunition in the right quantity.”
“We hope that in this way we will reach our goal of 1 million bullets (for Ukraine, – ed.) in the next 12 months,” said the EU High Representative.
Recall that the European Parliament decided to urgently deal with a bill to increase the production of ammunition and missiles in the EU.
