Russia faces an increasingly serious security threat in its border regions, and now has direct guerrilla action.
Russia is using the incidents in the Belgorod region to confirm the Kremlin’s official narrative that it is a victim of war. This is what the UK Department of Defense thinks.
“Russia faces an increasing security threat in its border regions with the loss of aircraft, IED attacks on railroads, and now direct guerrilla action. Russia will almost certainly use the incidents this to support the official narrative that he was a victim of war,” the statement said.
It was noted that between May 19 and 22, 2023, Russian security forces likely clashed with partisans in at least three places in the Belgorod region near the Ukrainian border.
The identities of the partisans remain unconfirmed, but Russian anti-regime groups have claimed responsibility for what is happening.
According to British intelligence, the most serious incident occurred near the city of Grayvoron. There has been an increase in the number of drone strikes or indirect fire attacks near the incident sites. The Russian Federation evacuated residents of several villages and deployed additional security forces to the area.
It will be remembered that on the morning of May 22, explosions were heard in the village of Zamostye, Belgorod Region, Russia, after which the lights went out in the area. Soldiers of the Russian Volunteer Corps announced a special operation in the region.
As stated in the Office of the President, Ukraine is not directly related to the events in the Belgorod region.
In this regard, the authorities of the Belgorod region announced the introduction of a “counter-terrorist operation regime.” The governor announced the eight victims.
According to the Main Intelligence Directorate, the Russians immediately began evacuating the Belgorod-22 nuclear weapons storage facility.
The Russian Federation reported that they were conducting a “cleansing operation” in the Belgorod region.
