Pilots of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be trained on fourth-generation combat aircraft, including American F-16 fighters. States will begin to train pilots in the near future. This was stated by the head of the White House on May 21 at a press conference during the G7 summit in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
I told Zelensky that Ukrainian pilots would be trained on 4th generation aircraft, in particular the F-16. To support Ukraine’s ability to protect itself, so that they can protect themselves better than before, he said.
Biden also said he received a “firm assurance” from President Volodymyr Zelensky that Ukrainian forces would not use Western-provided fighter jets to invade Russian territory. According to the American leader, the planes can be used wherever there are Russian troops “within” Ukraine.
Zelensky has already expressed confidence that Ukraine will receive F-16s from its Western allies. At the same time, the head of state did not name the countries ready to provide aircraft and the exact delivery dates.
We really worked long and hard with partners to get the desired result. Today the training mission is open for us. This is the first step. Then there is a suitable number of months to train our pilots. We will work to ensure that these people are as experienced as possible in order to shorten the learning process,” the Ukrainian leader said.
Recall, on May 20, National Security Adviser to the President of the United States Jack Sullivan said that the United States had confirmed participation in the “coalition of fighters.” In the coming months, Washington and its allies will discuss when and how many modern F-16s Ukraine will receive.
