Armin Papperger, president of Rheinmetall, said this in an interview with Bild.
We will start there with the maintenance and repair of emergency vehicles and we want to produce armored vehicles, such as Fuchs armored transport vehicles, as quickly as possible, said Papperger.
According to him, Ukraine is also interested in modern Panther battle tanks and Lynx infantry fighting vehicles.
But the first step is to meet the urgent needs of the country in its defense struggle, – said the head of Rheinmetall.
When asked if he was afraid to open production in Ukraine, given the Russian missile strikes, he replied:
Ukraine has effective defenses against attacks on sensitive targets, thanks in large part to Western assistance. Power plants and other industrial plants are also operating and, if damaged, are repaired immediately.”
Recall that in May the state concern Ukroboronprom and the German company Rheinmetall signed an agreement on strategic partnership through the creation of a joint venture.
The German Fuchs armored personnel carrier was originally developed by Daimler-Benz, but has now been finalized by Rheinmetall. The Fuchs was the second wheeled armored vehicle to enter service with the Bundeswehr and could be used for missions including troop transport, engineer transport, biological and chemical reconnaissance and electronic warfare.
“Military” writes that Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles and its predecessors produced 1,236 Fuchs 1 units, mainly for the German army. Further development of the design led to the creation of Fuchs 2, first shown in 2001.
In 2022, Rheinmetall introduced the new Fuchs Evolution armored personnel carrier with a 6×6 wheel formula, this is a deep modernization of the new generation.
