Joint training events will not be held in the US, and will likely be exclusively in Europe, with American participation.
The United States has supported joint efforts by allies and partners to train Ukrainian pilots on fourth-generation fighter jets, including the F-16. This is what US President Joe Biden said at the G-7 summit, CNN reports referring to a senior administration official in Washington on Friday, May 19.
According to the official, the joint training events will not be held in the US, but likely exclusively in Europe. But US personnel will participate in the exercise with allies and partners. It is expected to take several months, with the official hoping to start “in the coming weeks.”
“As training takes place over the coming months, our coalition of participating nations in this effort will decide when to provide aircraft, how many we will provide, and who will provide them,” the official said.
Earlier, the spokesman of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Yuriy Ignat, confirmed that Ukrainian pilots were tested in the United States, which made it possible to predict the time required to master the F-16 aircraft.
The media also reported that US instructors could retrain Ukrainians to fly the F-16 within four months.
