There were seven people on board the Cessna 206 aircraft at the time of the flight on May 1, its engine failed. Three adults, including the pilot, died immediately – their bodies were found inside the plane. All the children survived and went to the jungle. Rescuers during the search found moving fruit, as well as makeshift shelters made of plants.
Initially, Colombian President Gustavo Petr tweeted that the children had been found alive. However, later the military denied his words, indicating that the search was still ongoing. He subsequently apologized for the misinformation.
The search involved planes and helicopters of the army and the Colombian Air Force, as well as firefighters and representatives of the Civil Aviation Authority. The search for children is conducted in the dense jungle of the Colombian province of Caqueta.
