As part of the summit of the Council of Europe in Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, a political declaration was signed on the creation of a register of damage caused by Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. This was announced by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on Wednesday, May 17.
He noted that the registry is an important step toward justice and compensation to Ukraine and Ukrainians for the damage Russia caused during the war. Now it is necessary to directly ensure the operation of the register so that the victims of the Russian aggression can submit their applications.

Three more countries have expressed readiness and are undergoing internal procedures: Andorra, Bulgaria, Switzerland.
Not signed (6): Azerbaijan, Armenia, Bosnia, Hungary, Serbia, Turkey.

is the first part of the future International Compensation Mechanism, created by a separate international cooperation agreement with Ukraine; further, a Claims Commission and a Compensation Fund shall be established;

any member or observer state of the Council of Europe and the European Union, as well as any state that voted in favor of the UNGA resolution (November 14, 2022), can join the Register.
It was learned yesterday that the Register of Losses in Ukraine will be made in The Hague. This would be a first step, but a very good step towards compensating Russia, said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
It was also reported that the Ministry of Justice will conclude an international agreement on reparations and create a registry of damage caused by the Russian military aggression.
