The Ukrainian military is building engineered fencing systems to be ready for any enemy action.
The Ukrainian military continues to strengthen the northern border: in the past ten days, new minefields have been created and thousands of meters of defensive trenches have been dug. This was announced on May 17 by the commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Sergey Naev.
“Based on the possible nature of the enemy’s actions, we are implementing a set of measures to ensure the readiness of the groups of troops protecting the Northern Operational Zone for any enemy action, from repelling air strikes and missile, as well as preventing the actions of its sabotage forces,” said the lieutenant general. .
He emphasized that at the moment, Russian troops are not ready to conduct offensive operations in the northern direction, however, the Armed Forces of Ukraine understand and provide possible scenarios for the development of the situation.
“A significant role in stopping the enemy was played by a system of engineering fences, the repair of which continues every day … Mining in the area continues, the creation of mine blockades, as well also anti-tank ditches in sections of roads and routes of possible enemy advance,” Naev emphasized.
The commander pointed out that over the past ten days, anti-tank minefields and obstacles have been set up with more than 5.5 thousand mines. About 1,500 meters of trenches and 3,500 meters of anti-tank ditches were dug along the state border.
In addition, several dozen covered spaces, shelters and firing positions for personnel, as well as firing positions for equipment, were equipped.
It was previously reported that no signs of the formation of offensive groups of the enemy were found in the direction of Volyn and Polesye. The movement of units of the Russian territorial troops, trained in the training grounds of Belarus, to the areas of combat operations continues.
