The mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, spoke about this in an interview with BILD.
On Tuesday night, Russian troops launched a massive attack on Kyiv. He was the eighth since the beginning of May.
As Klitschko told BILD, the Western air defense systems guarding the city have themselves become a new target for strikes.
It was one of the most powerful attacks on Kyiv since the beginning of the war, – said Klitschko. – The goal of Russian strikes is our air defense. Their intensity may be a response to the supply of Western weapons. We managed to shoot down 18 out of 18 missiles, including six Kinzhals.
Niko Lange, ex-head of the operational headquarters of the German Ministry of Defense, agrees with him. He told BILD that “in Kyiv, Russia is testing new Ukrainian air defense systems.”
With Kinzhal, Caliber, X101, X555 missiles and Shahed and Orlan drones, the attacking side wants to know the positions of Ukrainian air defense systems such as Patriot, Iris and NASAMS, Lange said.
He is confident that Russia will continue to attack Kyiv.
