Peter Szijjártó sympathizes with Beijing’s proposals because they are allegedly “related to peace and ending the war, not its continuation.”
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto flew to China to discuss Beijing’s so-called “peace plan” for the war in Ukraine. This is what the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, said on his Facebook page on Sunday, May 14.
The Hungarian official claimed that Budapest supports China’s “peace plan” to resolve the war in Ukraine, as Beijing’s proposals are “about peace and ending the war, not its continuation.”
According to him, Hungary is against the deterioration of relations between Europe and China. Moreover, Budapest views Beijing not as a danger, but as a country where “there are great opportunities for cooperation.”
Remember that the Hungarian government periodically makes inflammatory statements about Ukraine, and also maintains close relations with the Kremlin. For example, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban reacted negatively to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s statement about Ukraine’s future in the Alliance.
Even earlier, Orban called Ukraine a “non-existent country.”
