Surgeon Says Johnny Depp’s Severed Finger Story Has Faults –

CHURCH OF ALL, Va. (AP) – A hand surgeon confirmed Monday that Johnny Depp could not lose the tip of his middle finger as he told jurors it happened in his civil case against his ex -wife Amber Heard.

Depp Heard was charged with libel in Fairfax district court in December 2018 for an article he wrote in the Washington Post describing himself as a “public figure representing domestic violence.” His lawyers said the article defamed him, even though he did not mention his name.

Depp denies he beat Herd and says he is having an abusive relationship. Herd testified in more than a dozen cases of physical abuse as he said he suffered at Depp’s hands.

In testimony Monday, surgeon Richard Moore testified about a cut on his finger when jurors saw gruesome photos of the injury. He described Depp as letting his hand into the bar when he hit the bottle.

Moore, who did not treat Depp, testified that Depp’s description was unlikely, especially since his nail remained intact. Moore said the nail was open as Depp described that he raised his hand and broke it. Moore also said there will be other injuries to the rest of his hands from the glass that broke due to the blow.

While Depp told the jury that Herd cut off his finger by shooting a bottle of vodka, he told people and text messages during the incident that he did it himself. At one point he said a finger was inserted between the solid doors of the accordion.

Depp now says he lied to protect Herd. Moore confirmed that pressing a finger on the accordion doors equals damage.

The trial is in its sixth week. Monday’s testimony was fairly common in a trial that gave a bad perspective on the couple’s toxic relationship. There were expectations that Herd’s lawyers would call Depp to the booth on Monday, but that didn’t happen. Herd’s attorney Elaine Bradhoft said at the end of Monday that they were still considering whether to call her.

The jurors had already learned the detail from Depp and Herd, each standing on the podium for four days and passing the tedious cross poll.

Also on Monday, a psychiatrist confirmed that Depp’s behavior matches the pattern of a person whose drug and alcohol abuse contributes to domestic violence.

Depp’s attorney Wayne Dennison questioned the ethics and credibility of the psychiatrist’s views, as he had not yet taken an exam on Depp.

Later Monday, Dennison vehemently questioned another of Hardy’s witnesses, entertainment expert Katherine Arnold, about her claim that Herd had lost a potential $ 40 million to $ 50 million when called by Depp’s other attorneys “fraudulently” Herd’s abuse allegations.
