British intelligence reports that the Russian military is chaotically retreating from Bakhmut.
The recent withdrawal of Russian troops from Bakhmut, which has been fought over for almost a year, has been chaotic, British Intelligence reports in its new daily erection.
In particular, experts from the UK note that units of the 72-1 motorized rifle brigade have randomly left their positions on the southern flank in Bakhmut over the past few days. At the same time, the Ukrainian military managed to advance about a kilometer deep into the proud and occupy an area that is of great tactical importance.
According to British intelligence, the retreating units from the Russian Federation were assembled only this autumn and had a reputation for low morale formations. Despite this, they were sent to the most important sector.
This highlights Russia’s serious shortage of reliable combat forces, the report said.
The retreat of the 72nd brigade of the Russian army near Bakhmut has a certain tactical significance for the further movement of Ukrainian units in this direction.
According to UK MoD analysts, the area’s importance stems from the fact that it was a Russian foothold on the western side of the Seversky Donets-Donbass canal marking the front line in that part of the sector.
The 72nd Brigade is part of the Russian 3rd Army Corps, a formation created in the fall of 2022 that is constantly accused of poor morale and limited combat capability. Its deployment to such a complex and operationally critical sector highlights Russia’s serious shortage of reliable combat units, British intelligence concluded.
