Beijing believes that “the current crisis in Ukraine is getting longer and worse, and the impact is continuing.”
Chinese Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui will visit Ukraine and several other countries next week. This is what the spokesperson of the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, said, according to the South China Morning Post on Friday, May 12.
So, starting May 15, Li Hui will visit Ukraine, Poland, France, Germany and Russia to “discuss the resolution of the crisis in Ukraine.”
Li Hui, a deputy minister-level diplomat, will be the highest-ranking Chinese official to set foot on Ukrainian soil since Russia’s February 2022 invasion.
“The visit of Chinese representatives to related countries is another demonstration of China’s commitment to promoting peace and negotiation. It fully shows that China is firmly on the side of peace,” Wang said.
In his opinion, “the current crisis in Ukraine is getting longer and worse, and the impact continues.”
“China is ready to continue to play a constructive role in building a broader international consensus on a ceasefire, starting peace talks and de-escalating the situation in order to promote a political solution to the crisis in Ukraine, ” Wang concluded.
It will be remembered that last week, China for the first time voted in favor of a UN resolution in which Russia is called an aggressor, although earlier it abstained or voted against.
