Borrell noted that the ministers will talk about supporting President Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace plan.
EU representative Josep Borrell said that the EU should focus its efforts not only on measures to immediately support Ukraine on the battlefield, but also on developing a long-term aid program. He said this in Stockholm before the start of an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, Ukrinform reports.
“Today’s meeting has two points: Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and the recalibration of our relations with China. On the first issue, it is clear that we must continue to support Ukraine, and we must do so for a long time. No only by providing ammunition to continue the fight, but also taking into account the medium-term perspective, preparing long-term support for Ukraine,” said the head of European diplomacy.
According to Borrell, Ukraine should ensure support.
“Both Russia and Putin must understand that we will not fail (in these efforts, – ed.). So they should stop waiting for us to tire. We will not be tired,” the EU representative insisted.
Borrell noted that the ministers will talk about supporting President Volodymyr Zelensky’s peace plan and consider bringing those responsible for crimes against Ukraine to justice.
He added that he personally supports the idea of creating an international tribunal, which other democratic countries also agree with. Ministers will focus on finding quick solutions to this challenge that are practical, quick and ready to use.
In addition, at the meeting of European officials in Stockholm, China policy will be discussed. Foreign Ministers received a concept paper from the European External Action Service to determine the EU’s position on China. This issue will be submitted for consideration by EU states and governments during the European Council at the end of June this year.
“We will not have normal relations with China if it does not use the strong influence it has with Russia to stop this war. China’s attitude towards the war in Ukraine is the second strategic security issue we will discuss today, Borrell said.
Remember, Borrell appreciated China’s “peace” plan.
Borrell also announced the transfer of thousands of missiles to Ukraine.
