If there are no guarantees for Russia on the export of ammonia, then the Black Sea initiative “will cease to exist,” they said in Moscow.
The aggressor country Russia opposed the expansion of the grain agreement and its indefinite continuation. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Vershinin following talks in Istanbul between representatives of Ukraine, Turkey, the Russian Federation and the UN on Thursday, May 11.
“We are against what many Western capitals are saying, against this (the agreement, – ed.) expansion or endless continuation. We must understand what is being done, including us and the participants in these agreements,” he said.
Vershinin also urged not to get ahead of ourselves on the issue of extending the grain agreement, which, according to Russia, seems to end on May 18: “Let’s not get ahead of ourselves… There is still time. correcting the distortions and shortcomings of this initiative.”
According to the Russian diplomat, if there are no guarantees for Russia, including the export of ammonia, then the Black Sea initiative “will cease to exist.”
“Because an initiative that benefits only one of the parties will hardly be recognized and confirmed by all. Naturally, first of all, we protect the national interests of Russia, its agricultural and fertilizer producers,” he stressed and added that the Russian part of The agreement in Istanbul about grain, “happened unsatisfactorily”.
According to Vershinin, a new meeting on the grain agreement at the level of deputy ministers has not been scheduled.
Last Thursday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense reported that the parties in Istanbul agreed to continue talks on an additional part of the grain deal in the near future.
Recall that this week Russia again blocked the work of the grain corridor. Against this background, Ukrainian agricultural exports hit anti-records.
