Chisinau decided that such actions “will not solve anything,” but “much will be lost” due to Kyiv’s counter sanctions.
Moldova will not impose restrictions on the import of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine. This is what the country’s Minister of Agriculture, Vladimir Bolea, said after Ukraine promised in response to ban all Moldovan imports, Newsmaker.md reports.
Bolea said that restrictions on imports will not increase sales prices for Moldovan farmers or reduce costs.
“This decision will give zero results. On the other hand, Ukraine will impose restrictions on the import of Moldovan products, and then a lot will be lost,” Bolea told TVR Moldova.
The Minister also drew the fact that the volume of imports of agricultural products from Ukraine is insignificant, and in total about 177 tons of wheat and 4,000 tons of sunflower seeds were imported, while the elevators in Moldova make it possible to store about 3 million. tons of products.
Bolya also said that Chisinau does not consider banning the transfer of grain from Ukraine through Moldova.
“Transport does not affect us negatively… The problem arises in road transport – waiting for customs in Romania. We are interested in the development of rail transport,” said the minister, adding that it more profitable than road transport.
It was previously reported that Moldova plans to introduce temporary restrictions on the import of grains and oilseeds from Ukraine.
After that, the Cabinet of Ministers announced that they are preparing a ban on all imports from Moldova in response to restrictions against agricultural exports to Ukraine.
