The European Parliament wants to urgently deal with a bill to increase the production of ammunition and missiles in the EU.
The European Parliament (EP) adopted on Tuesday, May 9, the decision to immediately deal with a bill to increase the production of ammunition and missiles in the EU. This was stated in a communiqué from Strasbourg, where the EP plenary session is taking place.
518 representatives voted in favor of the proposal to start an urgent procedure for the Ammunition Production Support Bill (ASAP), presented by the European Commission (EC) on May 3. 59 were against, 31 abstained.
The European Parliament will appoint a negotiating group and plans to start voting on the bill at the next plenary session, which will be held on May 31 and June 1 in Brussels.
This will be followed by negotiations with the Council of the EU to reach a political agreement, which will be voted on by MPs in the plenary session in July.
The ASAP law “aims at the immediate delivery of ammunition and missiles to Ukraine and assistance to member states in replenishing their stocks,” the EP said.
Recall that the ambassadors of the EU member states agreed on a procedure for the joint purchase of ammunition for Ukraine.
