US to allocate another $1.2 billion to Ukraine for defense – AP

This money should be spent in the coming months or even years to meet Ukraine’s future security needs.

The United States on Tuesday, May 9, will allocate another $1.2 billion to Ukraine in long-term security assistance, the Associated Press reports.

It was noted that the United States will provide Ukraine with another $ 1.2 billion in long-term military aid to further strengthen air defense in connection with Russian attacks on Ukraine.

The aid package will reportedly be announced on Tuesday and the money will be provided as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative.

Unlike American equipment, weapons and ammunition, which are usually sent to Ukraine from Pentagon warehouses to deliver them quickly, this money must be spent in the coming months or even years to meet the future security needs of Ukraine.

The aid initiative will fund the HAWK air defense system, ammunition and air defense drones. It also includes artillery, missiles, assistance in obtaining satellite images and funding for ongoing maintenance and spare parts for various systems.

Along with this package, the US has given Ukraine nearly $37 billion in total military aid since Russia’s full-scale invasion.

It will be recalled that last week the United States announced a new $300 million aid package for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
