As Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, explained in an interview with UNIAN, this status is a breeding ground for separatist sentiments.
A unitary state is unitary because there are no separate autonomies in it, which one way or another can become an excellent environment for the emergence of separatist sentiments. For a unitary state, autonomy is a dangerous path, a path into conflict at the regional level. I don’t think that after all the vaccinations that we have now received, we need to follow this path,” Podolyak said.
Earlier, representatives of the Crimean Tatar people called for fixing the status of Crimea as a national-territorial autonomy in the Constitution.
At the same time, Podolyak recalled that Ukraine has ethnic minorities whose rights must be respected. In this context, he mentioned the Crimean Tatars, who “deserve the sympathy” of the Ukrainians.
