Sponsor Wagner and the leader of Chechnya blackmailed the Russian Defense Ministry to allocate resources to the “Wagnerites” in Bakhmut.
The statements of the founder of PMC Wagner Yevgeny Prigozhin and the leader of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov about the alleged exchange of their units in the Bakhmut region forced the Russian Defense Ministry to continue issuing artillery to the “Wagnerites” . This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
Experts noted that after the blackmail of Prigozhin and Kadyrov, the commander of the Russian occupation forces in Ukraine, General Valery Gerasimov, gave up on the issue of supplying ammunition to the “Wagnerites” participating in the attacks on Bakhmut in the Donetsk region.
On May 7, Prigozhin announced that the RF Ministry of Defense had promised to supply the “Wagnerites” with ammunition and weapons necessary for conducting offensive operations in Bakhmut.
According to ISW analysts, the Russian Defense Ministry has probably not changed its intention to reduce the priority of offensive operations and keep ammunition in the theater of operations.
Prigozhin and Kadyrov apparently blackmailed the RF MoD into allocating resources to Wagner’s forces in Bakhmut by threatening to withdraw Kadyrov’s Chechen forces from other parts of the theater to shift Wagner’s forces to Bakhmut.
Analysts also believe that the ability of Prigozhin and Kadyrov to “significantly influence” the decision of the Russian military command depends on the willingness of Russian President Vladimir Putin to “lend them” as well as “confidence in their strength. “
Recall that on May 5, Prigozhin, in a letter to the leadership of the Russian Ministry of Defense, announced that he would remove the Wagner PMC mercenaries from Bakhmut from May 10. He claimed that the RF Ministry of Defense does not provide the his militants enough ammunition.
The Armed Forces of Ukraine declared that the Wagner PMC remains the main force of the enemy in terms of attacking Bakhmut, despite Prigozhin’s statements about the retreat of the “Wagnerites” from Bakhmut.
