A political prisoner, blogger Nikolai Klimovich, who was sentenced to a year in prison for a “smiley face” on social networks for a caricature of Alexander Lukashenko, died in the colony of Vitebsk, reports Belarusian human rights center Vesna.
61-year-old Klimovich died in Vitebsk colony No. 3. On February 28, in the district court of Pinsk and the city of Pinsk, he was sentenced to one year in prison for responding to a caricature of Lukashenka in Odnoklassniki, despite the fact that Klimovich has a heart defect of group II , had a stroke. and a complicated heart operation.
The court accused Klimovich of insulting Lukashenka under Art. 368 of the Criminal Code in a satirical image that he allegedly posted on the social network. In Odnoklassniki, the man put the reaction “funny”, so the caricature was put on the photo of his page. According to Klimovich, he did not intend to distribute these cartoons, but only laughed at them.
The man was detained in the courtroom, as he was released before the verdict was handed down. Before the verdict, Klimovich said he could die behind bars.
On April 21, the Brest Regional Court upheld the verdict. Soon, Nikolai was transferred to the colony of Vitebsk No. 3. He spent about two weeks in the colony.
