The UN looks forward to constructive and honest discussions with all parties to overcome difficulties.

Istanbul will host a high-level meeting on the extension of the grain agreement. Farhan Haq, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary General, said this, Anadolu reported on Friday, May 5.

“UN representatives will participate today in a technical meeting convened by the Turkish government on the (Black Sea Grain) Initiative in preparation for a high-level meeting to be held next week in Istanbul,” Haq said .

He added that the UN is counting on “constructive and frank discussions with all parties to overcome the problems and is working to continue and fully implement the initiative.”

Earlier, Turkey announced the risk for the grain deal. Russia has an extensive list of requirements to extend the grain deal, starting with reconnecting Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT system.

As you know, in March, Ukraine announced the extension of the grain initiative for 120 days, and Russia for 60. According to Moscow, the agreement will expire on May 18.
