The Berlin Administrative Court announced that the Bundestag acted legally when, in May 2022, it stripped Gerhard Schröder of a life-long capital office with staff.

DW writes that the legal dispute was in six rooms in the center of Berlin at Unter den Linden 50 in the Otto-Wels-Haus office building, owned by the German parliament.
Schroeder received them for use in 2005. The maintenance of the office in 2021 cost Germany 407 thousand euros.
The deputies decided to close the bureau, since Schroeder, in their opinion, “no longer fulfills the obligations” arising from his former position as chancellor. This refers to public speaking, participation in political events, support for public organizations.
The ex-chancellor’s lawyer Ralf Geiermann said that Schroeder was deprived of the right to office because of his personal relationship with Putin. This is “unworthy of the rule of law,” said the representative of the ex-chancellor.
But the court decided otherwise.
