13-year-old Ukrainian singer Sofia Samolyuk refused to share the stage with a Russian performer at the famous Sanremo Junior festival in Italy.
The organizers announced the participation of the Russians a few hours before the contest itself on May 3, representatives of the singer said, UP writes.
Instead of a vocal number, Sofia took the stage and announced the inadmissibility of the presence of representatives of the aggressor country in the international arena.
I will not sing on the same stage with Russian terrorists who are killing Ukrainian children. I hope that next year there will be no terrorist country on this stage. Please support Ukraine,” Sofia said from the stage.

In 2021, Samolyuk from Kiev won the Black Sea Games festival, which was held in Skadovsk, Kherson region. She won in the nomination “vocalists 11-13 years old”. In 2022, the singer received the Grand Prix of the United Kids festival in Bulgaria. Sofia became the best among the participants in the age category of 13-14 years.
The Sanremo Junior vocal competition is held in Italy under the auspices of the international organization UNICEF – the United Nations Children’s Fund. Its purpose is to protect the rights and interests of children.
