In the past, some countries have insisted that ingredients exclusively from EU countries and Norway be used in the manufacture of ammunition.
The ambassadors of the EU member states agreed on a procedure for the joint purchase of ammunition for Ukraine. This decision was made on Wednesday, May 3, in Brussels as part of a meeting of the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER), reports on its page in Twitter Swedish Presidency of the Council of the EU.
“The EU ambassadors agreed on a decision on aid funds under the European Peace Fund to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the amount of 1 billion euros for the joint purchase of ammunition and missiles,” said message.
The details of the agreement, agreed upon by EU representatives, are not yet known.
The media previously reported that there were disagreements between EU members on this issue. France insisted that the production of ammunition used only ingredients from EU countries and Norway, which was opposed by Poland, which was supported by other member countries.
Recall that today the European Commission has allocated 500 million euros to support the production of ammunition and to help EU member states replenish their stocks.
