The meeting is scheduled for May 5 in Istanbul at the level of deputy defense ministers of the three countries.
The aggressor country Russia disrupts the meeting, where it is planned to discuss the terms of the extension of the grain agreement. This was reported by the TASS agency on Wednesday, May 3, with reference to the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“The issue has not been agreed upon,” Lavrov’s department said briefly.
Shortly before this, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said this morning that talks between Ukraine, Russia and Turkey on a grain deal at the level of deputy defense ministers are scheduled for May 5 in Istanbul, A Haber reports. According to him, the parties are ready to extend the term of the agreements.
“We want the initiative to be extended without problems. Because it is very important for the countries in need, as well as for the peace and stability of the region. In this context, we can say that the parties are ready to extend the agreement,” said Akar.
Earlier, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the grain agreements do not seem to be implemented, and the prospects for extending the agreement “are not very good.”
As you know, in March, Ukraine announced the extension of the grain initiative for 120 days, and Russia – for 60. According to Moscow, the agreement will end on May 18.
In Russia, there is an extensive list of requirements: reconnection of Rosselkhozbank to the SWIFT system, resumption of supplies of agricultural equipment, spare parts and services, removal of restrictions on insurance and reinsurance, lifting the ban on access to ports, resuming the operation of the Togliatti-Odessa ammonia pipeline, unblocking foreign assets and accounts related to the production and transportation of food and fertilizers.
