The decision was made because of the verdict on Russian oppositionist and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza.
Britain on Friday, April 21, imposed sanctions against five Russians in connection with the conviction of oppositionist and journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza. This was reported by the press service of the British Foreign Office.
The judge of the Basmanny Court of Moscow, Elena Lenskaya, who ordered the arrest of Kara-Murza, the investigators in the case of the oppositionist Denis Kolesnikov and Andrey Zadachin, fell under sanctions.
In addition, FSB officers Alexander Samofalov and Konstantin Kudryavtsev, who monitored Kara-Murza before his poisoning in 2015 and 2017, were added to the list of sanctions.
Penalties include an asset freeze and a ban on entry to the UK.
Kara-Murza has Russian and British citizenship. British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley said the sanctions were “a clear signal that the UK will not tolerate such treatment of one of its citizens.”
Recall that on April 17, a Moscow court sentenced Kara-Murza to 25 years in a strict regime colony. He was found guilty of treason, collaboration with an “undesirable organization” and the spread of “fake” about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces.
Latvia has banned the entry of ten citizens of the Russian Federation involved in the prosecution of the Russian opposition leader.
