The EU should take more responsibility for its own security, the European diplomat said.
The European Union needs the European Armed Forces for its own protection. This was announced on Sunday, May 22, by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, on his blog.
“The new security environment shows that the EU must take more responsibility for its own security. To do this, we need modern and compatible European armed forces that will have a higher level of spectrum and will seek to develop of capabilities and forces, ”the diplomat said.
Borrell also said EU military equipment stocks had been depleted due to aid to Ukraine.
“The depletion of stocks as a result of the military support we have provided to Ukraine is the most obvious example of our EU defense shortcomings,” he added.
As reported, the EU authorities will allocate an additional 500 million euros as assistance to Ukraine for the purchase of heavy weapons – tanks and artillery.
