The leaders of both countries spoke about Russia’s invasion of Europe and discussed Macron’s trip to China.
US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron held a telephone conversation, where, among other topics, they raised the issues of Russian aggression in Europe and support for Ukraine. This was stated in the official statement of the White House, published on Thursday, April 20.
“The presidents reaffirmed their strong support for Ukraine against the backdrop of Russia’s brutal aggression,” the statement said.
The leaders also discussed President Macron’s visit to China and efforts to achieve prosperity, security, shared values and a rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific region.
In addition, Biden and Macron reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait.
Biden also reportedly spoke Thursday with European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen, who visited China with President Macron earlier this month.
It will be recalled that Macron warned against increasing Europe’s dependence on the United States.
