The full interoperability of the Ukrainian army with the forces of the Alliance will be ensured, Jens Stoltenberg assured.
Ukraine’s rightful place among NATO member countries. The Alliance promises to do everything to make this possible. This is what NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at a joint press conference with President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv on Thursday, April 20.
“We must ensure the most powerful Ukrainian security capabilities. Ukraine must have the right to find a place in the Euro-Atlantic family and Ukraine’s rightful place in NATO. And we will help. With our support, we will make it possible, ” he assured.
Stoltenberg praised the courage of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the resilience of the Ukrainian people, which inspire the whole world. He noted that he came today with a simple message: NATO stands with Ukraine.
“We stood with you after the illegal annexation of Crimea by Russia in 2014, we stand with you in the heroic struggle against the Russian occupiers and in defense of your country. And we will stand by your side tomorrow as you rebuild the country and working for a brighter future for the Ukrainian people,” Stoltenberg said and stressed that Russia’s aggression must stop.
At the same time, he stressed that he did not know when this war would end.
Stoltenberg also said that during the meeting with Zelensky, they discussed long-term support that will help Ukraine transition from Soviet-era equipment and doctrine to NATO standards and ensure that the Ukrainian army can fully trust its forces of the Alliance.
“This is evidence of NATO’s long-term commitment to Ukraine. The Alliance stands with you today, tomorrow and will remain as long as necessary,” assured Jens Stoltenberg.
It will be remembered that at the same press conference, Zelensky announced a new head of Ukraine’s relations with NATO. According to him, four main issues were discussed with Stolteberg.
It should be noted that Ukraine has record support for NATO membership. Only 3% of the population opposes such a prospect.
