The National Security Committee of Kazakhstan is investigating ten criminal cases on the facts of the participation of Kazakhs in the war in Ukraine. On Sunday, April 16, KazTAG agency reported.
“The KNB is investigating ten criminal cases on the facts of the participation of citizens of Kazakhstan in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine,” the report said.
Details of the investigation are not reported to the committee, as pre-trial investigation data is not subject to disclosure.
According to article 172 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan, participation in foreign armed conflicts is punishable by imprisonment for five to nine years.
Kazakhstan plans to tighten controls on goods destined for onward re-export to prevent Russian evasion of Western sanctions.
As previously reported, Kazakhstan closed its trade office in Russia. This is stated in the Decree of the Government of the Republic on Some Issues of the Ministry of Trade and Integration of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
