European countries have received clarifications from the EC on how to legally buy Russian gas, the media wrote.
German and Italian authorities have allowed companies to open accounts in rubles for the purchase of Russian gas, Reuters reports citing sources.
Two sources of the publication said that German gas importers had received a notification from Berlin about the possibility of opening ruble accounts to pay for Russian gas without violating sanctions.
It was noted that Germany has acted on this issue in close coordination with the EU.
Reuters also reported that the Italian government has also contacted the European Commission and received clarifications on how to legally buy Russian gas.
The media pointed out that this happened before Italian energy company Eni announced the start of the procedure for opening two accounts: one in euros and one in rubles.
This week, Russian President Vladimir Putin said some European countries would not be able to give up Russia’s oil and gas for a long time.
