The country supports the International Criminal Court and all its work in Ukraine, said Canadian Ambassador Larisa Galadza.
Canada is pleased to see an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and awaits further decisions from the International Criminal Court. This was said by the Canadian Ambassador to Ukraine Larisa Galadza in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
“We are very pleased with the arrest warrant for President Putin. Because it shows that the court can work quickly and it focuses on a really important aspect of Russia’s war against Ukraine and its consequences for children,” he said.
The Canadian ambassador expressed confidence that it is possible to bring Putin to justice, as well as all those who have committed war crimes in Ukraine, for what they have done.
Galadza noted that Canada supports the ICC and all its work in Ukraine, as well as the work of investigating international crimes around the world. In particular, Canada provided funding to the court to help deal with the increased workload and increased demands as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“The arrest warrant is a restriction and a certain type of condemnation, and also a very strong signal that the International Criminal Court is working here in Ukraine, in The Hague, with international support from countries like Canada. And I hope that we will see more from the ICC “, – emphasized the ambassador.
Galadza also called the issue of prosecution of the Russian Federation for the crime of aggression important.
“The main question is how best to do this. A Core Group has been created for this, of which Canada is a member. And we are working with similar partners to understand how to prosecute the crime of aggression, to bring the Russia to justice for its aggression” he said.
As you know, on March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvovo-Belova. They are suspected of involvement in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
