Queen Elizabeth continued her happy return to the community with a surprise departure from London Paddington Station on Tuesday.
The 96-year-old Sovereign officially opened the Elizabeth Line, which has been undergoing renovations since 2009 and was named after the monarch. The Queen was shown how to use the Oyster Card to purchase her first subway ticket, which will open to passengers next week.
Elizabeth, wearing one of the classic monochromatic dresses, was accompanied on the walk by her youngest son, Prince Edward. He had to open the queue in case his mother could not attend.
“In a happy development, Her Majesty the Queen will be attending today’s event to celebrate the completion of the Elizabeth Line,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement.
“His Majesty was aware of the appointment and the organizers were informed of the possibility of his presence,” the palace added. According to the BBC.
The palace recently said the Queen was “continuing episodic mobility problems” in a statement, explaining that she would not attend the opening of Parliament last week.
Although Prince Charles was given parliamentary mandates to deliver the Queen’s speech, the Queen was able to attend two important events over the weekend. On Friday, the monarch attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show, which marked his first public appearance in just a few weeks.
Just two days later, Elizabeth smiled at the event in honor of her Platinum Jubilee, which was celebrating her 70th birthday on the throne.

The queen looks forward to the next few weeks as the monarch celebrates his second official birthday at Trooping the Color in June.
Many events are also planned for the Queen’s Official Platinum Jubilee Celebration, which will take place from 2 to 5 June.
