If the Kremlin leader were to set foot on Austrian soil, he would be arrested, the country’s government said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin will be arrested if he visits Austria. This was said in an interview with Tagesspiegel by the Minister for EU Affairs and the Constitution in the government, Carolina Edtstadler.
According to him, the announcement and issuance of an international arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court means that if Putin “steps on Austrian soil, he will have to be arrested.”
Austria will fulfill its obligations under international and criminal law, Edtstadler stressed.
It can be recalled that the Ministry of Justice previously stated that Austria is a party to the Rome Statute and will fulfill its obligations under it.
Currently, 123 countries have ratified the law.
As you know, on March 17, the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvovo-Belova. They are suspected of involvement in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
