Taiwan’s military and coast guard responded calmly to the exercise, Tsai said.
Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen has criticized China’s military exercises, saying they have brought instability to the island and the region and are irresponsible, Reuters wrote.
China began the military exercises on Saturday, April 8, after Tsai returned to Taipei after meeting in Los Angeles with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy.
Tsai said that as president, she represents her country to the world and her visits to other countries, including the US, are not new or expected by the people of Taiwan.
“However, China took advantage of this to start military exercises, which caused instability in Taiwan and the region. This is not a responsible attitude for a large country in the region,” he stressed.
Tsai said the Taiwanese military and coast guard responded calmly and professionally and thanked them.
“Although military exercises in China have ended, military and national security personnel will continue to remain at their posts and protect the country,” the Taiwanese president added.
It can be recalled that from April 8 to 10, China conducted military exercises around Taiwan, where the military practiced launching missile attacks on targets on the island and blocking its sea and airspace.
