French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the initiative he has put forward to create the European Community, which Ukraine can accept, is not an alternative to the process of joining the EU. The new political structure must be complementary. This was announced on Thursday, May 19, by the press service of the Elysee Palace.
Macron recalled that on May 9, in the European Parliament, he proposed the European Political Community project, which aims to create a new structure of cooperation that unites democratic European countries that adhere to core values and aspire to join the EU .
“This community is not an alternative to the membership process, but an addition that, independently of it, allows for a stronger structure of political, energy and investment relations with certain desired countries. , ”Macron said.
As reported, Macron said Ukraine’s accession to the European Union could take decades and called for the creation of a “European political community” that could accommodate Ukraine in its ranks.
After that, Kyiv said that Ukraine does not need “surrogates” for the status of an EU candidate, which shows a second-rate attitude towards the country and hurt the feelings of its population.
