Dozens girls were intoxicated on Saturday at several schools in Iran, a country that has been rocked by mysterious student poisonings for more than four months, local media reported.
Since the end of November, many schools, mainly from girlswho have suffered sudden poisoning with gases or toxic substances, causing discomfort and fainting, sometimes with subsequent hospitalization.
The head of the National Fact-Finding Commission, MP Hamidreza Kazemi, was quoted on Friday by state television as saying the body’s final report would be released “within two weeks.”
At least “60 students were poisoned (on Saturday) at a school in girls Haftkel” in the southwestern province of Khozestan, the Iribnews news agency reported, citing a local official.
Other girls were also poisoned at “five schools in Ardabil, northwest” where they showed “symptoms of restlessness, shortness of breath and headache,” the same source added.
In Urmia, the capital of West Azerbaijan Province (northwest of Iran), “an unknown number” of elementary school students were also affected “after the release of the gas,” the Ilna news agency said, without giving further details.
Five thousand drunk before March
The official balance sheet on March 7 showed that “more than 5,000 students” were poisoned in more than 230 educational institutions located in 25 provinces, out of the 31 it has. Iran.
The poisonings stopped in early March, after hundreds of arrests were announced, but resumed three weeks later.
supreme leader IranAyatollah Ali Khamenei called on March 6 for “severe punishments”, including the death penalty, for the people who would be held responsible for these poisonings.
Some poisoning theories point to fundamentalists seeking revenge for the young women’s role in the protests sparked by Mahsa Amini’s death in September after she was arrested for not wearing the veil properly. (According to AFP)
