A man who lives in Port Saint Lucieon the east coast of Florida, was arrested and charged with brutal torture and murder blue heronto whom he cut off the legs, stabbed and cut his neck in front of his children at home, local media reported this Wednesday.

The event took place last Sunday Eugene FritzA 67-year-old man spent a day fishing and returned home with a live blue heron, which he injured while trying to catch it after it ate his bait.

Fritz’s wife called the police and explained that they had an argument before her husband went fishing, returned with a wounded bird, and then severely tortured and killed her, local TV reported. VPTV.

In a conversation with agents, the Fritz children said that their father brought blue heron (a protected species in Florida) wounded at home where he cut off his legs, stabbed him and cut his neck in front of them.

They condemn what happened

The woman told police that her husband took out his anger on the bird for eating his fishing bait.

Fritz was charged with the crimes of “aggravated animal cruelty and child abuse” due to the emotional damage of watching such an animal die.

Cindy Dionnethe director of animal welfare organization Treasure Coast Wildlife said this type of wildlife abuse is known in this part of Florida.

“There is no reason to harm these animals. They don’t pose a threat, they’re just trying to catch their food,” Dionne said.
