Former US President Donald Trump was officially released from formal arrest on the evening of April 4 after the charges were read to him in Manhattan District Criminal Court in New York, CNN reports.
During the court hearing, Trump was read the indictment, which contains 34 counts.
After reading the accusations, the former US president did not agree to any of the points, then he was released from arrest and left the courtroom.
Trump did not give a statement to the media and immediately got into a car that would take him to La Guardia Airport, after which he would go to his residence in Florida.
According to The New York Times, all charges against the former president are class E felonies, which are the lowest category of felony in New York and carry a maximum penalty of up to four years in prison.
Trump is reportedly the first former US president to face criminal charges.
On March 30, a New York grand jury indicted Trump for paying $130,000 to actress Stormy Daniels. More than 30 counts related to business fraud have been brought against Trump.
In January 2018, the Wall Street Journal reported that US President Michael Cohen’s lawyer had paid adult film star Stephanie Clifford, also known as Stormy Daniels, $130,000 to keep quiet about an affair with a billionaire that happened in 2006. Trump himself assured that he had no personal relationship with Daniels.
