A meeting scheduled for Wednesday between the President TaiwanTsai Ing-wen and Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy will “further spoil” relations between Beijing and Washington, the Chinese consulate in Los Angeles said.
The planned meeting in California would cause “great damage to the national feelings of 1.4 billion Chinese” and undermine “the political foundation of Sino-US relations,” a consular official said.
McCarthy “ignores the international community’s broad support for the One China principle and ignores the lessons to be learned from previous mistakes,” he added.
In line with the “one China” position, Beijing does not allow any country to have ties with it and with the Taiwanese at the same time.
“There is no doubt that he will again make the same mistake, which will further spoil the relationship between China And USAbut it will only strengthen the Chinese people’s “strong will and determination” to achieve “reunification” with Taiwan, the spokesman said.
Beijing considers the self-governing island part of its territory and intends to take it back, even by force.

McCarthy confirmed on Monday that he will meet with the President Taiwancontrary to warnings China that he believes he is “playing with fire”.
Tsai plans to call USA on his return from a trip to Central America where he met with the leaders of Guatemala and Belize.
McCarthy, the top Republican in Congress, had previously vowed to travel to Taiwan and follow in the footsteps of Democrat Nancy Pelosi, whom he succeeded as Speaker of the House last January.
But Pelosi’s visit led to China hold the largest military maneuvers in its history around Taiwan.
The meeting in McCarthy’s home state of California was seen as a happy medium to avoid escalating tensions with China.
However, the Chinese consulate in Los Angeles said on Monday that any meeting “would do nothing to promote regional peace, security and stability.”
Although the US recognized the Beijing authorities in 1979, they are Taipei’s main ally and its largest arms supplier.
