The trilateral exercise comes amid promises by North Korea to develop new, smaller nuclear warheads to expand its arsenal.
The navies of South Korea, the United States and Japan will conduct a two-day anti-submarine exercise from Monday, April 3, in preparation for repelling threats from the DPRK’s nuclear and missile capabilities. This was reported by Reuters.
During the joint exercise, the military will use a mobile anti-submarine target exercise to improve the capabilities needed to detect, track and destroy North Korean submarines.
The exercises will be held in international waters on the island of Jeju in South Korea with the participation of the US aircraft carrier strike group led by the Nimitz aircraft carrier, which arrived in Busan last week.
It noted that the trilateral exercises are being held against the backdrop of North Korea’s promises to develop new smaller nuclear warheads to expand its arsenal.
Recall that the DPRK tested a “nuclear” underwater drone.
