A preventive measure for the ex-governor of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Pavel, was chosen by the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv.
On Saturday, April 1, the ministers of Themis sent the Metropolitan of the Ukrainian pro-government church of the Moscow Patriarchate under round-the-clock house arrest for a period of two months. The clergyman was ordered to wear an electronic bracelet and forbid him to make a video message and conduct social networks. This was reported by “Public” and “Babel”.
Earlier, the SBU reported suspicion to the Metropolitan of the UOC of the Moscow Patriarchate Pavel Lebed under Art. 161 (inciting inter-religious hatred) and Art. 436-2 (dissemination of materials justifying Russian aggression) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The intelligence service said that they had collected a reasonable evidence base regarding the involvement of the former rector of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra in inciting religious hatred, justifying and denying Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine.
Meanwhile, today hundreds of activists and caring citizens have gathered near the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. People hold Ukrainian flags in their hands, as well as posters: “Pasha in Russia”, “Moscow Patriarchy is behind the Russian ship”, “Down with Moscow priests”.
At the same time, the Moscow Patriarchate arranged a prayer service near the Lavra, about 150 supporters of the UOC-MP are present. Priests have installed speakers and are trying to shout down the protesters.
Recall that the hearing on the election of a measure of restraint for the Metropolitan began today, April 1, in the Shevchenkovsky District Court of Kyiv. At first, the defendant’s lawyers tried to challenge the judge, but nothing came of it. Subsequently, the Metropolitan himself complained about the deterioration of health, allegedly “because of the level of sugar.” He was offered to call an ambulance, but he refused. At first, Themis decided to postpone the court session to April 3, but the session was resumed nevertheless tonight.
