The Special Court for Kosovo held Thaçi responsible for nearly 100 killings of civilians during the 1998-1999 war.
Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci, 54, will be tried in The Hague on war crimes charges. On Friday, March 31, according to Reuters.
It was determined that the trial in the case is scheduled for Monday, April 3.
Thachi was charged with 10 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity, including persecution, murder, torture and enforced disappearance during the war. Also, a special court for Kosovo held the former President of Kosovo accountable for some 100 killings of civilians during the war.
In addition to Tachi, three of his associates are involved in the case. They face the same charges as former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) fighters.
The four defendants in the case are accused of “criminal acts … in which large-scale or systematic attacks were carried out” against the Serbian civilian minority in Kosovo and against Kosovo Albanians opposed to the KLA.
It is learned that Tachi himself and his colleagues deny the accusations.
More than 13,000 people are known to have died in the 1998-99 Kosovo War of Independence, most of them ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, as well as Serbs, Roma and other nationalities.
In 2008, Kosovo declared its independence, which is recognized by almost a hundred states of the world.
Hashim Thaci became the leader of Kosovo after the war with Serbia, and was elected president in 2016.
It will be remembered that in December last year, relations between Serbia and Kosovo worsened. Then the Kosovo special forces entered the territory of the municipality with a majority Serb population against the backdrop of the upcoming re-election. In response, the Serbian population blocked roads in some settlements with barricades.
In late February, it was reported that Serbia and Kosovo supported the EU’s “normalization plan”.
