Finland will officially become a member of NATO in the coming days. Secretary General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg in a video message on Friday, March 31st.
He recalled that all 30 NATO members ratified the protocol on Finland’s entry into the North Atlantic Alliance. Stoltenberg congratulated President Sauli Niiniste on this historic event.
“Finland will officially join our Alliance in the coming days. Membership will make Finland safer and NATO stronger,” the Secretary General said.
Stoltenberg noted that Finland has combat-ready forces, improved capabilities and strong democratic institutions, so its membership would provide a lot to NATO.
The Secretary General added that the Allies agree that it would be in everyone’s interest to complete the ratification process for Sweden as soon as possible.
Remember, on March 30, the Turkish parliament approved the protocol of Finland’s accession to NATO. And on March 27, the Hungarian parliament voted for Finland to join the Alliance.
