Finland will officially become the 31st NATO member in the coming days.
On the night of March 31, the Turkish Parliament ratified the protocol on Finland’s accession to the North Atlantic Alliance. Thus, all 30 member countries have ratified the accession protocol of Finland. This was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, according to a video message published on Twitter.
According to him, membership in the Alliance will make Finland more secure, and NATO stronger, because this country has very combat-ready forces, enhanced capabilities and strong democratic institutions.
Stoltenberg stressed that he was also looking forward to congratulating Sweden as a full member of the NATO family as soon as possible.
As you know, Sweden and Finland applied to join NATO in May 2022 after Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Recall that the Hungarian authorities said that the parliament of this country hesitates about Sweden’s entry into NATO, because the “imaginary moral superiority” of Sweden “is laughable at best.” Also in Budapest, they declared a “lack of respect”.
