IT-company Vulkan, commissioned by the Russian Ministry of Defense, implements the Amezit project, which allows you to track users.
The Russian Ministry of Defense and the Russian special services ordered from a local IT company Volcano cyber warfare software. Its engineers worked for Russia’s military and intelligence agencies. This was reported by The Guardian.
The company’s work is connected to the FSB and GRU, the media note. Some of the documents that have been made publicly available are “an illustrative example of potential targets.”
“One contained a map showing dots across the US. The other contained details of a nuclear power plant in Switzerland,” the researchers wrote.
In addition, among the main projects implemented Volcano by order of the Ministry of Defense – coded program Amesite, which can track all Internet users in a given area. The program may also block access to certain sites.
By using Amesita, according to the investigation, an employee of the Department of Defense with one click can create hundreds of bots in different social networks, and then give them different tasks. Among them were the campaigns against Hillary Clinton in the 2016 US presidential election. The Kremlin also tried to influence the outcome of the 2017 French presidential election by stealing data.
As we reported earlier, Russian hackers attacked the websites of government agencies in Slovakia after the transfer of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
In addition, over the weekend, hackers linked to Russian intelligence agencies attacked several Polish government websites.
